Is the Sky Really Falling?

Georgia Fans,
I ask you to ask yourself as I have these past few days the following questions:
"Hey, is the sky really falling?"  "Is it really that bad?"  ""Are our Glory Years behind us?"
I would like to say no to all of the above and think with a good amount of confidence that I can answer with an honest "No."  Is it difficult getting your expectations up and then having your heart ripped from your chest?  Absolutely.  However, keep in mind that unless our beloved Dawgs happen to have all the cogs of this finely tuned machine hitting right on time and good ol' Lady Luck happens to shine down on us that we nor any other team for that matter is going to go unblemished every time we take to the field.
The one thing I will take a moment to stand up on my "soap box" and gripe about is this:
Where has the PASSION and INTENSITY gone?  From our Head Coach on down I see a lack of INTENSITY.  It's frustrating that every time your Head Coach is shown on television that he appears un-emotional, un-involved, and could care less if the score is 55-7 "Dawgs on Top!", or 17-6 "Cocks".  (Ho-Hum Attitude) I don't know how many of you actually had the opportunity to watch the Auburn-Clemson game this past weekend, but if you did you saw a great deal of EMOTION and INTENSITY from both Dabo Swinney as well as Gene Chizik.  Dabo was sprinting down the sidelines pumping his fist, high-fiving assistant coaches, and had fire in his eyes!
These young men look to their coaches for inspiration, encouragement, and intensity.  Stop standing there like a stone wall or a bump on a log Mark Richt!    INTENSITY breeds INTENSITY!!!! It's contagious.  I guess all in all what I'm trying to relay here folks is that it sure would be nice to have a Head Coach that has that "Warrior Mentality" of, "I don't care if we are winning 55-0 we are going to try and score and get better each time we touch the damn ball!"  The, "I'll cut your legs off at the knees and still take pleasure inflicting even more pain upon you!"  This does not have to be done by running up the score by any means, but just take a look around the SEC and you will see what I mean.  Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Les Miles, Gene Chizik, etc.  All of these coaches are very emotional and don't mind showing it while they pace the sidelines.  It's not hard to look at one of the afore mentioned coaches and tell, they truly want to win, no ifs, ands, or buts about it!  We have seen an "Evil Richt" for a brief period of time back in '07, but ever since then he's been "MIA".
(Hey Stonewall!  Where's the ol' Evil Richt we all once knew?)

I am in no way shape or form attempting to say that Mark Richt could care less if we win or lose on Saturdays.  I know he DOES.  I'm also not calling for Mark Richt to be fired.  I think he is a great man of faith and an excellent coach.  He just needs to re-kindle that inner fire and let it be seen by others that he does care if we win or lose, shows some emotion, shows some intensity and just flat out "Get After Their Asses!
Have faith in and support your team Dawg Nation.  Until next time........Go DAWGS!

  1. Coach Richt huddled his team together at the beginning of the 4th quarter. He was emotional and the team responded. Question is, why wait until the game was, for all intents and purposes, out of hand? Richt's modus operandi is to be calm. That's who he is and if he suddenly changes, it'll seem to be contrived. Grantham, on the other hand, is the opposite. Maybe this is a good thing.

I am not surprised at our two losses. I steeled myself against this very scenario because we lost against some quality opposition. A break here 'n there and we win both games despite our inconsistencies on both sides of the ball which, injuries notwithstanding, are mostly coachable. If we lose to Mississippi State, then I'm worried. We have more talent than they do, pure and simple.

Our defense is a works in progress, but we are holding our opponents to less points than we did at the same juncture as last season.

Those who are calling for wholesale coaching changes need to realize that Richt deserves the benefit of your support. A new defensive philosophy not only takes time, but it takes at least one recruiting cycle to get the "type" of players that make the system work. The offense will also improve and showed some real life in the 4th quarter last week. Again, key personnel losses are killing continuity. AJ, King, Chapas are vital to the overall success and they are not here. The offensive line is the real enignma in all of this.

Advice to those who will listen; ask yourself: What is a realistic record for a team that, at the beginning of the season, completely changed it's defense, had injuries, lost it's biggest weapon for 4 games, and played two very solid squads?

  2. We have no passion and intensity, you say LAW DAWG ?

We have an MIA coaching staff, you say LAW DAWG ?

Here is the way I read what is happening with The Georgia Football Program, a Program which is the # 11 All-Time Winningest Football Program.

1-5 vs last 6 SEC East opponents.

2-6 vs last 8 SEC opponents.

And, you have 1 response with 7 EXCUSES.

Excuse me, there is NO EXCUSE for 1-5 last 6 SEC East games just as there is NO EXCUSE for 2-6 the last 8 SEC games, especially with Coach Richt's "coaching staff" BLAMING THE DAMN PLAYERS and now the Nick Williams one of the players, pointing out back to THEM that it is Coach Richt's "coaching staff."

Now, did I miss something ?

How do you sleep at night with 7 Excuses piled 1 on top of another in 1 single reply ?
